Martha's Talk Moments | † My Testimony: God's grace helped me overcome my desire of the American Dream

Friday, October 2, 2020

In today's episode, we are going to speak about faith, hope, and the American Dream. While some know me as Tasha, God changed my name to Martha. He also called me to be an Apostle. This simply means, that he commissioned me to go wherever he sends me to preach or teach the gospel, in truth and in love. Martha's Talk is a talk show in which I share the love of Christ for humanity, in Spirit and in truth.

In today's episode we are going to go over:

    • What is faith, and what is our faith used for? What is hope?
    • My Testimony: God's grace helped me overcome my desire of the American Dream
    Our focus scripture comes from:
    • Revelation 21:1-5  Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
    • If a born-again believer does not understand what faith is, what it is used for, or what our hope is in, it maybe very hard for them to understand why evil is happening to them, even though they are in God's will. Like myself, I've heard Christians say "but God, I've done all that you've told me to do, I waited to marriage to have sex, and my husband or wife cheated on me." "I raised my kids up in church, and they are now in the world." "I have been faithful in tithing, and ministering to the Lord, and now I am homeless." How can a good God to allow this to happen to me, as I am serving him?
Faith is trusting that God's will is best for our lives, even when he allows us to be in situations that are uncomfortable. It is standing firm in the trials and tribulations that he wants us to be in, despite our natural circumstances believing that we are in God's will despite our circumstances. Faith is overcoming evil with good in this age (on earth), believing that in the age to come (heaven or the new earth) there will no longer be any evil, only good.
    • Hebrews 10:19-39  Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,  but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.” And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
    • Hebrews 11:1-40 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. .... There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Where is our hope? What is it in?
    My Testimony:
    If I ever desire anything outside of the things above (Philippians 4:8);
      • Loving God (in times, tithe, and love) and then loving my neighbor (family, friends, enemies, etc)
      • Overcoming evil with good
      • Reading the word of God and attending church
      • Going to heaven in God's timing and as God's will
      • Food to eat, drink to drink, and clothes to wear (see S1E4 Got worries? Get this!)
... then it is a good time for me to ask God, where is my hope? Do I trust God with my life? Recommended episode: S1e7 How does God communicate? Before I was born-again, and when I was newly born-again, I had, what we call hope & dreams but they were not in God's will and really not what any Christian should hope for, and dream of. Back then, I worked in tech, I was saving up for my future (retirement), had a plan to buy a house in 5 years. I had already traveled around the world. I had a fairly expensive car. I worked in Human Resources, and for well-known companies. Although, I was somewhat successful, my success and hope was not founded upon God's success and hope. I was born-again on May 19,2018 and for the last 2.5 years, God really had to teach me and train me with his grace (Titus 2:11-14) to set my heart and mind on the things above and not on earthly things (Colossians 3:1-4). I literally, had to give up everything to follow Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:24-27), some friends, some family, my career, being able to travel like I did, living on my own, my clothes, even at times food and drink.

    Where am I now?
I am 32, and I am not married. I do not have children. I do not have my own home, neither my own apartment, nor a car. Actually, when I got into God's plan for my life, is when I went further away from this "American Dream," that I had and was close to getting. If I chose the American Dream, then millions of people would not have been impacted positively by the teachings, prophecies that were given to me by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. I am crying tears of joy because like Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul (see 2 Corinthians 6:3-13, and Luke 9:58), I am poor (naturally), but because of the grace of God, I've made many many rich (spiritually).  I have peace that surpass understanding. I do not have worry. I am not anxious. I have rest. God's peace guard my heart and mind in the Lord. Most importantly, I know Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit (John 17:3). I actually have a relationship with God, and I believe that one day, that I'd never have to be in another trial & tribulation. I will be with Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. The new earth that descends from heaven will only have good.
    • In Philippians 3:7-20, the Apostle Paul wrote "But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.  All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,"
    • In 1 Thessalonians 3:18, the Apostle Paul wrote "Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore encourage one another with these words."
What must I do to have a relationship with Jesus Christ?
