S2E8: Healing & Deliverance

Friday, October 23, 2020

Welcome to S2E8 of Martha's Talk!
In today's episode, we are going to speak about healing & deliverance. While some know me as Tasha, God changed my name to Martha. He also called me to be an Apostle. This simply means, that he commissioned me to go wherever he sends me to preach or teach the gospel, in truth and in love. Martha's Talk is a talk show in which I share the love of Christ for humanity, in Spirit and in Truth.

Focus scriptures:

  • Who heals & deliver in the Kingdom of God?
  • Context
  • Sin
  • The gifts of the Holy Spirit
  • Law of Moses
  • Repentance
Focus scriptures:
Mark 16:16-18 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.
  • Acts 10:36 The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all— 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
  • James 5:14-16 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
  • 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 27-31 4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

What and who is truth?

  • John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
  • John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
  • John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth

In the Kingdom of God, who heals & delivers?

Jesus Christ does, through his ministers; born-again believers (for example: Acts 9:1-19). I believe all born-again believers who are inside of God's will for their life and are led by the Holy Spirit, heal & deliver. How they heal & deliver will differ based upon God's calling for their life, God's grace, and their faith (Romans 12:3, Ephesians 4:1-11, 1 Corinthians 12:25-30). Healing & deliverance doesn't only come through laying on of hands (evangelistic style), but also through teaching (literally, demons leave when there is repentance, and this comes by knowing the truth and accepting it). Likewise, pastors heal & deliver as they counsel, etc, and so forth and so on.

How does healing & deliverance work?

We are free from the Law of Moses by God's free grace, and our belief in Jesus Christ. We then become free from the bondage of sin (will explain shortly). Outside of God's will (recommended watch: what is faith?), sin is the open door to sickness & disease. Again, outside of God's will (recommended watch: S2E1 How are we to live as Christians?)

In John 8:31-36 Jesus says the following: "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free." indeed.

    • What makes one a disciple of Jesus Christ?
      • Hold to Jesus's teaching and the result will be loving our brothers/sisters in Christ as Jesus Christ loves us (recommended watch: S2E3 How do we love Jesus Christ?).
    • What freedom is Jesus referencing?
      • This freedom that Jesus is referencing, is freedom from sin.
      • Sin is what enslaves people, as it makes those who do not believe in Jesus Christ unrighteous and separates them from having a relationship with God (2 Corinthians 5:11-21).
      • When one is separated from God, they are close to sin and vice versa.
    • What is the cure to sin?
      • The cure to sin is God's free grace, and our belief in Jesus Christ
        • Romans 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
        • Thus, this frees us from the domination of sin (Romans 6:13-17).

In 2 Corinthians 3:13-18 the Apostle Paul wrote "We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

    • This freedom that the Apostle Paul is referencing is freedom from the Law of Moses, which is a law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-3).
So what does this have to do with healing & deliverance?
    • Due to the grace of God, and our faith in Jesus Christ, when we submit to God, the Holy Spirit will resist the devil, and he will flee (James 4:7). For more information, watch: S1E7 How does God communicate?
    • It is very much possible to never ever sin under the Law of the Holy Spirit (covenant of grace). However, our focus should not
      • 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
      • 1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
      • 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
    How do we stay free?
Demons can come back again, if they find that you are still out of God's will (Matthew 12:43-45). So how do we stay free?
    • God's grace and our belief in Jesus Christ. This belief, will lead us to obey him. Our obedience, will allow the Holy Spirit to resist the devil, so that he can flee.
